We provided SS-ROV Camp sessions to different locaions for the past 7 years. Beginning in 2015 we held camp sessions in Monterey, CA (hosted by MAOS, Monterey High School) and in Oxford, MS (University of Mississippi). Since then we added summer day camps to five other locations in California.
Campers learn about density. Cold salt water sinks to the bottom of the tank, room temperature salt water occupies the middle, and warm fresh water floats on top.The campers fill ping-pong balls with water of different temperature and salinity to find out in which layer they will settle.
Campers design, fabricate, and test their ROVs. The goal is to come up with a design that allows the ROV to go forward, backward, left, right, and up and down in the tank.
Campers learn about bathymetric maps.
Campers fly ROVs outfitted with cameras along the harbor wall.
